What does Safety In Sport do?

The Safety in Sport campaign is a response to the growing dissatisfaction and serious physical, psychological and financial harm caused by sub-standard medical treatment of professional football players. The campaign founded by Barrington Atkins will form a group of like-minded professionals and experts, including qualified medical practitioners, sports therapists, wealth and financial advisors and legal experts.

How do they help?

The Safety in Sport campaign is created for those who are passionate about promoting health, and to educate and empower professional sports players who have suffered serious problems. We want to facilitate a better, safer, more transparent industry in sports medicine and rehabilitation; offer much-needed legal and medical support; and give peace of mind to professional sports players seeking to improve their health, well-being and legal position.

The Safety in Sport Campaign supports professional sports players by allowing them access to specialist legal, medical, financial advice and support. The campaign will work hard to ensure that professional sports players' safety is protected by generating as much awareness as possible, and working closely with professional sports players through their career.

The involvement of Move Well Nottingham...

Kim was asked to join the SISC team due to her extensive network in elite sport, and in depth level of understanding in sport performance. Kim is passionate about athletes receiving the best advice and guidance, whilst raising awareness of the benefits high of quality Soft Tissue Therapy in sport. There is a big difference between massage therapy and sports massage, and the extent of understanding and awareness between the levels of qualification. Kim is qualified as a BTEC L.5 SRSTT from the renowned and highly respected NLSSM, with BTEC L.5 SRSTT being the highest recognised level of SRSTT qualification available, to which she has gone on to continually develop. Kim's background in horse riding from a young age and high level training in Dressage gave Kim an in depth level of performance and what it takes to achieve the best performance, as not only does a horse rider have to consider themselves, but they have to understand how their performance influences the horse's performance which requires understanding of how a horse performs. Every day Kim helps people in sport and clinic to achieve their performance dreams, and refers when and where necessary to ensure THE best care is given.

Thus, Kim's involvement in SISC is to promote and support SISC in Sport Performance by producing articles for athletes, members of the support team and agents. Furthermore, through Kim's experience in sport and pitch side first aid, Kim helps SISC by considering the various ways in which sport can become safer. An example of the types of things considered are the high tackle laws, whilst they have now been made illegal in Rugby Union but remain legal in Rugby League - if you have any thoughts about this topic, please feel free to get in contact, whether its for or against, all opinions will be taken into account.
